About KIC


The central library of NIT Sikkim is the temple of learning in NIT Sikkim and is designated as Knowledge and Information Centre(KIC). Presently the centre is headed by Mr. Swapan Manna, Knowledge and Information Officer (KIO) and looked after by FIKILE. The KIC is situated in the midst of all departments and hostels and is easily accessible to all/everyone in the campus. All students, faculty members and staff of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities and services. The KIC supports the teaching and research programmes of the Institute and provides facilities for general reading and disseminates information according to the requirement of the users. It is housed in a separate building. It has very good reading room facility with proper ventilation and natural lighting. The open access system is observed in the KIC. It has text books, reference books, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, Videos, CDs/DVDs, Journals/Magazines, Local and National newspapers, e-books, Bibliographic and full text databases, NPTEL videos, E-book reader. KIC reading room is open from 10am to 8pm every day. Well-equipped photocopy, printing and scanning facilities are available for users. The KIC has also introduced wi-fi Internet facility recently inside it to facilitate free-flow of information to the users. Library is fully automated with Automation Software (LIBSYS 7). Circulation Services are executed through Barcode System. Science Direct, IEL, Sci-Finder, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Pearson E-books (Selected title), Kindle e-book reader and DELNET access are available. Web OPAC is implementing shortly. The library is growing rapidly with exponential increase in number and type of collection to serve the information needs of the students, faculties and the research scholars.
